Soweto Gospel Choir XL8

Press Release

Irish Midas and Klark Teknik Distributor Sound Communications Ltd recently assisted one of its main Midas Clients – Murt Whelan Sound and Lighting – by supplying an XL8 live performance System for a prestigious show with the double Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir at the fantastic Concert Hall in Limerick University .

Alan Murphy of Sound Communications Ltd takes up the story…”I had been in discussions with Murt about XL8 and upcoming digital products from Midas when talk of this show was mentioned and since we had an XL8 in our warehouse at the time I decided to offer it for the show - even though the artists rider requested a more modest console.  After a more than positive response from the SGC’s FOH engineer Paul Bardini – the XL8 was on the show”

Murt Whelan, rental company for the show says “I was delighted to offer the XL8 for this show – and to my clients The Concert Hall at Limerick University . After an initial prep day at Sound Communications Ltd where we programmed the console for the gig I felt confident to go ahead with using the XL8 even though I had not mixed a show on it, its obvious that the control surface is extremely user friendly and as Alan was going to oversee the XL8 side of the gig it was a no brainer really!  Paul the SGC’s sound engineer also never used or even seen an XL8 but after a few minutes training on the surface he just simply mixed the gig! And really seemed to love the console”

Paul Bardini FOH sound engineer for The Soweto Gospel Choir comments “I’ve always been a Midas fan and user - H3000’s and XL4’s - so when production at the University Concert Hall offered an XL8 I didn’t really have to think twice! I was very impressed with control surface and loved the POP groups and the classic Midas EQ and preamp characteristics.  I also ran external PC stuff like Smartt and the ability to view that on the XL8’s screens kept my eyes forward.  I have to say it’s hard to go back to others consoles after XL8!  Thanks to Murt Whelan and Alan Murphy for excellent support on the night”

The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music.  The 26-strong choir, under the direction of David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto .
